Jewel sets movie, holiday album, CMA dates Folk
songstress Jewel is currently sprinting around the East Coast on her "Spirit" Tour, and she's booked herself a full fall itinerary to keep her busy when the outing is over. Her first feature
film, the Civil War drama "Ride With The Devil," will be unveiled at the International Film Festival in Toronto, which runs from September 9 to 18. The tentative theatrical release is scheduled for
November 5. Jewel stars in the Ang Lee film as a character named Sue Lee Shelly in the film along side co-stars Skeet Ulrich ("Scream"), Tobey Maguire ("Pleasantville"), Jonathan
Rhys-Myers ("Velvet Goldmine") and Jeffrey Wright ("Basquiat"), among others. Jewel will also be making an additional foray into the world of country music. The singer will be dueting
with country legend Merle Haggard at the Country Music Awards, which is being staged at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on September 22. The pair is featured on two songs on Haggard's forthcoming
retrospective album, "Merle Haggard: For The Record," due for release August 24. And "Billboard" reports that Atlantic Records has set a tentative release date of November 9 for
Jewel's Christmas. The CD, produced by Arif Mardin, will include classics like "Silent Night," "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "Joy To The World," "Ave Maria," and
"Winter Wonderland," as well as a Christmas version of Jewel's hit "Hands" and a gospel medley of "Go Tell It On The Mountain," "Life Uncommon," and Julie Gold's
"From A Distance." In the meantime, Jewel's current radio single "Jupiter" is being released to stores internationally on August 17. The CD single will feature the new studio recording
of "Jupiter" along with two other tracks: "Deep Water," recorded live at Fox Radio in Melbourne Australia earlier this year, and a live recording of "Emily." |
